2018 Championship Recap: Kaepernick Leads Fleet to Title

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Tahj Boyd Glaring Weakness vs the Kaepernick Led Fleet

Colin Kaepernick Outmatches Tahj Boyd at Most Important Position

May 27, 2018

San Antonio, TX - In typical Iron fashion, they started out somewhat slow in the first quarter. However, things changed. Fleet QB Colin Kaepernick was hit hard early in the game and actually left the game, but when he returned in the second quarter, Kaepernick hit WR Charles Johnson on a 14 yard Touchdown pass. That wasn’t the last one he threw either, as later in the first half he threw an 83-yard touchdown pass. Eventually the Fleet went up 21-9 early in the third quarter.

Then the Iron came back to life. Two touchdowns and five minutes later (in game time), the Iron were back in the lead, 23-21. The fourth quarter then started early with another Kaepernick touchdown pass. Then Tahj Boyd the Iron quarterback, led his team down for a big drive of their own. He threw the touchdown pass with just under five minutes to go to tie the game. The Iron never saw the ball again; the Fleet drove the ball down the field until they got into field goal range, and then K Blair Walsh kicked a 44-yard field goal with three seconds left to seal the deal.
