CFL Goes International

October 19, 2018

Toronto, ON, CANADA - CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie announced this morning that the league would be focusing on expanding the game of football internationally. Ambrosie announced that the CFL has partnered with the Professional American Football League of Mexico (LFA), the German Football League (GFL) and the Japanese X-League, allowing all three leagues to serve as developmental leagues for the CFL.


The CFL also announced that they would be expanding their rosters to allow for two designated active roster international players along with three practice squad international players that wouldn't count against the league's salary cap.


Diego Viamontes, the reigning MVP of the LFA, would be the first international player signed to the league as he would be joining the Edmonton Eskimos for the 2019 season as a WR/KR.
