Generals Finish off the Alliance Expansion for 2019

Columbus, OH - Randy Lerner and the Generals Football LLC are proud to announce that the Generals have relocated to the great state of Ohio, and will be representing Columbus. Minority owner Joey Galloway then presented the crowd with their first Head Coach, Kliff Kingsbury.

Kliff Kingsbury

Kliff served as the Head Coach at Texas Tech from 2013 to 2018 before being let go after having a 35-40 overall record. Kingsbury was the OC at the University of Houston in 2010 and 2011 and then at Texas A&M in 2012 before becoming the Head Coach at Texas Tech. Kliff was known for developing QBs such as Baker Mayfield, and Patrick Mahomes as well as having an explosive offense that averaged 42 points and 550 yards per game.


Columbus Generals

Joining Kliff Kingsbury in Columbus will be Graham Harrell as the Offensive Coordinator and David Gibbs as the Defensive Coordinator. Harrell served as the OC at the University of North Texas starting in 2016 before accepting this position. Harrell also played QB at Texas Tech like Kingsbury. Gibbs coached under Kingsbury at Texas Tech as the DC from 2015 to 2018. Prior to that he was the DC at the University of Houston from 2013 to 2014, and with the UFL's Virginia Destroyers.


Also joining the staff in Columbus will be Steve Hoffman as the Special Teams Coordinator and Pepper Johnson as the LBs Coach. Hoffman was the STC with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009 to 2011 and then with the Tennessee Titans from 2013 to 2017. Pepper Johnson played in the NFL from 1986 to 1998 before becoming the LBs coach with the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2013, with the Buffalo Bills for 2014 and then with the New York Jets from 2015 to 2016. Johnson played his college football right there in Columbus for the Ohio State Buckeyes.


Justin King will serve as the General Manager of the Generals. King played in the NFL from 2008 to 2013. This will be his first opportunity working in a front office.


The Generals will be playing their home games at Mapfe Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
