Fleet and Iron Move on to Take on Commanders and Guardians

Fleet Knock Off Stallions

May 13, 2018

San Diego, CA - The game didn't turn out how anyone expected it to but the rain didn't do either of these offenses any favors. Neither QB could get any real momentum going in the first quarter as the period ended 0-0 but QB Paxton Lynch and the Stallions started to find a rhythm in the second period when the team took a 14-0 lead into halftime behind two TD passes from Lynch to WR Terrelle Pryor for four yards and one to WR Kenny Bell from one yard out.

After the Stallions started the 2nd half with a Field Goal, QB Colin Kaepernick and the Fleet finally got on the board with a Field Goal of their own. But trailing, 17-3 the defense needed a huge stop and that's exactly what they got when Fleet LB Shea McClellin stripped Stallion RB Christine Michael of the ball that teammate DB David Amerson jumped on. QB Colin Kaepernick then hit WR Braxton Miller on a 5 yard out route to make the score 17-10.

On the next Fleet possession, the game was tied when Kaepernick hit WR Charles Johnson on a 33 yard streak down the sideline. The Stallions really tightened up from there after the realization that their 17 point lead had vanished. Fleet got the ball back and K Blair Walsh hit his 2nd FG of the game, this one from 45 yards out to give the Fleet the right to move on.

Depleted Alphas No Match for Birmingham

May 14, 2018

Birmingham, AL - The Chicago Alphas looked like they were up for a challenge early on in the first quarter when QB Aaron Murray hit WR Shaq Evans from 14 yards out to give his Alphas the 7-0 lead. However, Head Coach Tony Dungy knew exactly how to win this football game and he pounded the rock a season high 45 times, with starting RB Trent Richardson getting 32 of those carries that resulted in 243 yards. The Iron struggled in the red zone settling for five K Alex Henery Field Goals but without much of an offensive threat from the Alphas, Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich knew how to properly bread his butter.

Iron QB Tahj Boyd did end up throwing two TDs in the 2nd half, one from 14 yards out to WR Kaelin Clay and one from 12 yards out to WR Greg Ward but the game was never really in question.

Iron - 28 Alphas - 10
