2018 Week 4 Recap: Hapless Express Don't Impress

Stallions Gladly Take Win vs Hapless Express

March 11, 2018

Memphis, TN - We don’t use the term “hapless” lightly, but after the performance of the Express this week it seems very appropriate. The Express offense was simply not playing professional football this week, as they managed a paltry 172 total yards, including only 11 rushes in the entire game for a measly 19 yards. They were 0-8 on third down attempts and never threatened St. Louis in this lopsided game.

You have to feel for the Coach Schiano, but a change is clearly going to be needed. The problems all seem to stem from a sub-par offensive line. Stud RB Zac Stacy has found nothing open on the ground, and QB Christian Hackenberg is left on the turf after most plays. The question is, how do you fix an O-line midseason?

But let’s also give some kudos to the St. Louis defense. The Stallions have been playing solid team defense all season. Led by former Philadelphia Eagles' LB Mychal Kendricks, one of the league leaders in tackles, the Stallion D swarm to the ball and play hard-nosed run defense each week. In this game they spent more time in the Memphis backfield than most of the Express players.

On offense, the Stallions were unspectacular but effective, with the heaviest load carried by RB Christine Michael, whose 87 yards on 19 carries kept the ball out of Memphis hands. And despite two Paxton Lynch interceptions, the Stallions were able to keep Memphis from scoring, and eventually Lynch was able to find his groove, hitting on a14 of 29 passes, and finding his tight ends for 2 TDs in the game.
