From Champs to Chumps
Memphis in Need of Starting Over in 2019
April 8, 2018
Memphis, TN - The final game of the weekend was not the type of matchup you ideally want for the Sunday late game, as two 0-7 teams fought to see who could garner their first win, and sadly for the homestanding Express, there was no home field advantage to be found in Memphis.
For the first time all season, the Washington offense looked dangerous as RB Lorenzo Taliaferro busted out for over the century mark in rushing yards. Paired with Taliaferro, QB Matt McGloin had his most efficient game of the year as well, hitting on 19 of 23 for 258 and 2 touchdowns. By the 4th quarter, with the Valor up by 21, we even got to see a little of Dalton Sturm, the highly touted backup QB for the Valor. Sturm went 5 of 6 for 53 yards in his limited time.
For Memphis things were not so comfortable. QB Zach Mettenberger threw for 221 but was unable to hit his receivers when needed, a big reason for the team’s one of ten conversion rate on 3rd down. And, in a refrain we have heard before, RB Zac Stacy was equally unimpressive, rushing for only 35 yards on the day while facing eight defenders in the box every play.
The Express have to regroup quickly as they face a tough road trip to the rowdy atmosphere in St. Louis next week.
