2018 Week 11 Recap: Commanders Win to Stay #1

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Seattle is Left on the Outside Looking In

Loaded Western Conference Won't be Including Seattle

April 29, 2018

San Antonio, TX - Don’t let the nine point margin of victory fool you, this was a nail biter right down to the final seconds. Seattle and San Antonio traded haymakers for most of the game before a fluke play made the score look far more lopsided than it was.

Both quarterbacks played well in the game, with Seattle’s BJ Daniels going 21 for 31 for 230 yards and 2 TDs, while San Antonio’s Tim Tebow went 20 of 29 for 233 and a TD. The difference in the game really came down to one big play.

Down 22-20 with 1:51 left in the game, Daniels guided the Dragons down the field, hitting wideouts TJ Graham and Jalin Marshall with consecutive first down plays before surprising the Commanders' defense with a 14 yard draw by Kenneth Farrow to get the ball to the 36.

With only seconds left, the Dragons trotted out former New Orleans Saint Garrett Hartley to attempt the 52 yard field goal. Hartley hit the ball on a low trajectory, and when it smacked into the outstretched hand of San Antonio’s LB LaRon Landry, the Dragons knew the game was lost. But that was not enough for Commanders’ safety Javier Arenas, who scooped up the blocked kick and returned it for a game-sealing touchdown.

For San Antonio it was a welcome victory keeping them in first place. For Seattle, the elation of last week’s win was lost, and now the Dragons have been eliminated from the playoffs.
