Colin Kaepernick and the San Diego Fleet Hit Hard in Week 1

San Antonio Shows Kaepernick that AAF is no Slouch

February 18, 2018

San Antonio, TX - San Diego Fleet QB Colin Kaepernick was shown by the San Antonio Commanders on Saturday night that the league wasn't just going to hand him a championship on a silver platter. Kaepernick struggled in his return to action after sitting out last season, and couldn't quite find the end zone against a pretty stifling Commander defense. San Antonio Head Coach Mike Shanahan may have finally built a team to his liking with the additions of QB Tim Tebow, RB David Cobb and OC Gary Kubiak this offseason.

The Commanders used a 51 yard pick six from also newly acquired DB Bacarri Rambo to jump on top 13-0 a little over half way through the second quarter. Kaepernick then had his best drive of the first half as he put a few first downs together that resulted in a thirteen yard RB Kapri Bibbs touchdown that got the game to a 13-7 halftime.

After both teams traded early field goals, San Antonio QB Tim Tebow hit WR Earl Bennett for a 6 yard touchdown on a slant to make the score 23-10. Fleet RB Bishop Sankey answered back with a 6 yard toss for a touchdown but the Commanders would ice the game on the next possession when San Antonio RB David Cobb dove over the pile at the goal line for a 2 yard score. No happy ending for the Kaepernick led Fleet in Week 1.
