Wildcats Help Continue Baltimore's Slide Down the Standings

Brigade Can't Catch Break in 2018

April 1, 2018

Los Angeles, CA - The Baltimore Brigade are proving to be one of the hardluck stories of the young AAF season. After allowing 62 points their last two games, Head Coach Brian Billick took defensive playcalling duties away from Defensive Coordinator Kurt Schottenheimer and promoted LBs Coach Jerod Mayo for the team’s third game, and the defense played much better, forcing 2 fumbles and a red zone interception from Los Angeles QB Jimmy Clausen, but it was not enough as the Brigade offense could only muster 10 points of their own. Baltimore actually took the early lead when QB Shane Carden opted to keep the ball on an option run and scored from the three early in the 2nd quarter.

But, it was not to be. On the next drive Clausen led the Wildcats downfield and on a 3rd and 2, RB Kendall Hunter took a pitch left, evaded the LB and spun past a safety to score the tying touchdown. The game went into halftime tied at 7, but after the 2nd half kick Los Angeles took a lead they would not relinquish when Corey Acosta hit on a 37 yard field goal.

Baltimore had some highlights, including shoestring catch by wideout Marlon Brown and a 4th and 1 call that ended up with a 12 yard run by Denard Robinson. But despite these glimmers of hope, the 'Gade offense simply was not up to the task as QB Shane Carden had his worst performance of the year, throwing for only 88 yards and tossing a drive killing interception of his own late in the 3rd.

For Los Angeles, the win in front of a rowdy home crowd that was reported at over 45,000 put them at 4-3 while Baltimore received a 4th straight loss after losing starting signal caller Kellen Moore.
