2017 Week 9 Recap: New York Gets Huge Win vs Iron

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Guardians Make Up a Very Strong Eastern Conference

Guardians Stand Above Iron at Home in OT

April 9, 2017

New York, NY - When a team wants to beat the Birmingham Iron, the plan is pretty clear. Stop the power running game of RBs Trent Richardson and Peyton Hillis and make young QB Tahj Boyd beat you over the top. Well, the New York Guardians didn't do any of that and still came away victorious at home which should show opponents just how dangerous they are. Richardson and Hillis combined for 249 yards and 3 TDs but it didn't feel like a typical Iron game. The game was fast paced and the team looked to wear out late.

The Birmingham Iron was up 31-14 going into the 4th quarter but two TDs and a FG put the game into Overtime where Casey Spear hit the 39 yarder to put the Guardians over the top.
