2017 Week 3 Recap: Manziel Dominates Again

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Johnny Football Has Memphis Thinking Championship

Express Remain Undefeated with Manziel

February 26, 2017

Washington, DC - Johnny Manziel and the Express have been on an absolute tear since he was named as the starter on the 0-6 2016 Express. They haven't lost yet, and it wasn't going to happen in the nation's capitol on Saturday Night. Manziel was absolutely efficient running the offense, completing 81% of his passes for 276 yards, with 2 TDs and only one mishap which was actually a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage that Manziel took complete responsibility for.

The Express was up 16-6 at the half, before Head Coach Greg Schiano let Johnny Football unleash the football. The third quarter saw Manziel throw for 153 yards and two touchdowns, one to WR Jon Baldwin and one to WR Jerrel Jernigan that put the game away 30-6. Valor would add a late TD from RB Zac Stacy on an impressive 34 yard toss but the game was never in doubt for Memphis.

Memphis Goes All In on Manziel

February 28, 2017

Memphis, TN - Express owner Frederick W. Smith wanted to surround his star Quarterback with every weapon he could, so early Tuesday morning, Memphis traded away backup QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson along with starting RB Johnathon Dwyer to the Washington Valor for RB Zac Stacy. Smith was impressed with the play of Stacy during their matchup on Sunday night.

In other news, the Miami Blues' starting RB Delone Carter once again tore his ACL ending his season on Saturday afternoon. The Running Back announced his retirement from professional football this morning.
