2017 Week 6 Recap: Is Vince Young Done?

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Wildcats batter Vince Young, easily defeat Roughnecks

Roughneck QB Vince Young Again Struggles

March 19, 2017

Houston, TX - Roughneck QB Vince Young looked fine in the first half as he had his team up 13-3 against a well below average Los Angeles Wildcats team but the third quarter is when everything fell apart for the former Heisman trophy winner. After Wildcat QB Jimmy Clausen started the second half by hitting WR AJ Jenkins for a 31 yard score that cut the lead to 13-10, Young had back to back drives resulting in terrible interceptions that the Wildcats turned into touchdowns and a 24-13 lead.

Roughneck Head Coach Mack Brown obviously had lost complete trust in his Quarterback at that point, and the team tried to just run the ball and shorten the game. The defense saw it coming and Houston RB Bryce Brown had nowhere to run with eight guys in the box every play averaging less than 3 yards per carry. Wildcats K Corey Acosta would nail three field goals in the final stanza to give him twelve points on the day and it would easily be enough for Los Angeles to leave Houston with the much needed victory.
