Monarchs Crowned King of Canada After Week One

February 20, 2022

Toronto, Ontario, Canada - The Sports Network (TSN) got a perfect start into their AAF foray with this shootout. QB Jeremiah Masoli led the Monarchs down the field on the first possession that ended with a 26 yard TD pass to TE Lance Kendricks. After a short Jousters' possession, Monarch RB Chuba Hubbard took his first AAF carry 89 yards for a touchdown giving the Monarchs an early 14-0 lead.

Jousters QB Blaine Gabbert then responded for his first career AAF TD pass when he hit WR Keyarris Garrett for the score. The Monarchs ended the first with a Field Goal and the 17-7 lead.

The Jousters then responded with a 16 yard TD run from former Houston Roughneck RB Karlos Williams to start the 2nd quarter. After another Monarch Field Goal, Toronto scored again on the ground with a former Atlanta Defender RB Kenneth Dixon 9 yard scamper.

RB James Wilder Jr. responded for the Monarchs with a two yard plunge and after a Jousters' fumble, the Monarchs added an additional Field Goal for the halftime score of 30-21.

RB Karlos Williams then got the 2nd half scoring started with his own 60 yard touchdown run before Monarch K Sam Sloman then added his 4th FG for the Monarchs, and the score was 33-28 at the end of three.

RB Kenneth Dixon then found his second score of the game to give his Jousters their first ever lead, 34-33. It was short lived however as K Sloman then kicked his 5th FG of the afternoon. After a 4th down attempt failed for Toronto on the following possession, K Sloman set an Alliance record for Field Goals in a game with his 6th successful attempt on the day giving the Monarchs the 39-34 victory.
