Replacement Teams Had No Chance
March 15, 2020
Columbus, OH - With the NBA, NCAA, MLB, NHL and NASCAR all halting their seasons, Vince McMahon wanted all eyes on the AAF for the weekend and he got exactly that. All ten of the league's Week 5 games were amongst the top twenty most watched television broadcasts for the week.
In Columbus, QB Chris Streveler returned to the starting line-up for the Columbus Generals, and the team picked up the victory against the Omaha Aviators, one of the league's replacement team. With the recent insertion of the CFL rookie into the starting lineup, Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury was able to unleash his deep vertical passing attack for the first time this season and Streveler delivered.
Streveler threw for 325 yards and 4 scores in his first AAF start, with each of his talented receivers, Jaelen Strong, Devier Posey, Eugene Lewis and Devin Smith, having over 60 yards and a touchdown. The Aviators on the other hand tried to stay in the game with a ground attack combining the efforts of RBs Bo Scarborough, Josh Ferguson and Dexter Williams, who combined for 93 yards on the day but rookie QB Anthony Gordon couldn't do much in the air before being benched in the late third quarter for fellow rookie Steven Montez. Montez was able to hit WR Robert Foster for a score in the 4th but it was too little too late for the Aviators, as they fell 34-10.
