Streveler and Columbus Wins the 2020 AAF Championship

Iron Fall Just Short Again

August 2, 2020

Frisco, TX - As the third drive of the game started to get rolling, Iron QB Tahj Boyd’s pass was intercepted by LB Marcus Smith who returned it for a touchdown. Putting themselves in a 7-0 hole early, the Iron finally put together a decent offensive drive.

The second quarter begins with the Iron near the end zone, howerver, a sack by Generals DL Shawn Oakman and a penalty pushed the offense back to 3rd and 22. A dropped pass made it 4th and 22 with the Iron settling for the field goal.

Generals QB Chris Streveler and the offense trots out for what would be the final drive of the half. Streveler connects with WR Devier Posey for a monster 52 yard gain. WR Jaelen Strong also got involved with some short completions of his own. Streveler then connects with TE Clive Walford on a 27 yard route that has the score 14-3 at the half.

The Iron were finally able to put some points up on the board in the third quarter. RB Trent Richardson continued to pick up solid yardage as the offense marched down the field. A successful 4th and 4 conversion gave the team some life on the drive, and it was capped off by a Tahj Boyd QB sneak for a touchdown. The Aviators went for two and converted thanks to TE Asante Cleveland who went up and snatched the ball away from the defender. The lead was trimmed 14-11 following the score.

The Aviators started the fourth quarter on defense and failing to stop the Generals offense as they find pay dirt. The score leaves a steep uphill climb for the Iron as they trail 21-11. The Iron would turn to RB Richardson as they have done so many times before. They march down the field. RB Richardson caps it off with a rushing touchdown to make it 21-18 but with little time remaining.

On this drive, little used backup RB Byron Marshall showed off the wheels and had some nice chunk yardage runs. WR Eugene Lewis would end the drive as he hauled in a pass from QB Streveler, Streveler’s third touchdown pass of the game. This score all but ended the game theoretically, as the Generals took a commanding 28-18 lead.

So far that has been the case but maybe the Iron will be tired of being a bridesmaid and make a huge free agent signing in the next few days
