Les Miles makes the Journey to Washington DC with the Alliance League


Les Miles Brings Familiar Faces to DC

Washington, D.C. - Ted Leonsis and Monumental Sports and Entertainment LLC are proud to announce the complete staff for the 2017 expansion Washington Valor. Les Miles will be serving as the Head Coach, with Cam Cameron and Bo Pelini serving underneath him as the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.

“These three men combined to win a National Championship down in Baton Rouge, and there is no doubt in my mind that they'll bring a league championship to the District of Columbia.”

Miles, along with Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron, were fired from the Louisiana State University following the 2015 season despite finishing 9-3. Miles won the 2008 NCAA National Championship for the LSU Tigers. He was the Head Coach at LSU from 2005 to 2016. He was the Offensive Coordinator and the Head Coach at Oklahoma State University prior to that from 1995-1997 and 2001-2005.


Washington Valor

Joining Miles in D.C. will be Cam Cameron as the Offensive Coordinator and Bo Pelini as the Defensive Coordinator. Cameron, fired from LSU with Miles, also served as the Head Coach of the Indiana Hoosiers from 1997 to 2001, the Offensive Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers from 2002 to 2006, the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2007, and as the Offensive Coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 2008 to 2012, before joining Miles' staff in Baton Rouge. Pelini, was the Defensive Coordinator under Miles at LSU from 2005 to 2007, before becoming the Head Coach at the University of Nebraska from 2008 to 2014 and then Youngstown State for the last two seasons before accepting this position.


Also joining the Valor staff is former LSU Tigers greats C Ben Wilkerson as the Offensive Line Coach and RB Kevin Faulk as the Running Backs Coach. Wilkerson played professional football from 2005 to 2009, prior to being a grad assistant under Miles for one season, the OL Coach at Grambling State for two seasons and then as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach with the New York Giants starting in 2015 prior to accepting this position. Faulk retired from the New England Patriots and the NFL in 2011, before becoming a High School coach.


Doug Williams will serve as the General Manager of the Valor. Doug worked in the front office of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004 to 2010 before becoming the General Manager of the UFL's Virginia Destroyers for two seasons.


The Valor will be playing their home games at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.


Iron Promote Leftwich and Hire Tim Lewis and Mike Kafka

July 12, 2016

Birmingham, AL - Following the retirements of both their coordinators, the Iron was tasked with filling both positions before beginning preparations for the 2017 season.


Quarterbacks Coach Byron Leftwich has been promoted to the role of Offensive Coordinator after the great job he did with young QB Tahj Boyd in 2016. The team then also hired Tim Lewis to be the new Defensive Coordinator. Lewis most recently served as the secondary coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2010-2015. Previously, Lewis was the Defensive Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2000 to 2003 and for the New York Giants from 2004 to 2006.


Former Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Mike Kafka has been hired as the new QBs Coach. Kafka retired from the NFL in 2015.
