Tebow and Four Other Signal Callers Join Alliance

August 11, 2015

Stamford, CT - The AAF announced the first player signed to each franchise as each team's staff went out and brought in the best veteran Quarterback they could sign.

We're not a developmental league for anyone. These signings should show that. These guys are the 8 best Quarterbacks that aren't currently in the NFL. We will be adding younger prospects in the draft in October.

San Antonio - Brady Quinn*

Miami - Tim Tebow

Steve Spurrier was able to convince fellow former Gator Tim Tebow to sign with the Alliance. Tebow was the first ever sophomore Heisman trophy winner at Florida in 2008 and then the 2nd person to ever win the award for a 2nd time in 2009. Tebow was drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 2010. After being the Bronco starter for two seasons, Tebow spent 2012 with the New York Jets and 2014 with the New England Patriots. Tebow was released by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.

Birmingham - Tahj Boyd

Boyd was a 6th round pick of the New York Jets in 2014 after leading Clemson to a record of 22-4 and an Orange Bowl victory. Boyd was released from the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year.

Memphis - Dennis Dixon

Dixon was a 5th round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers out of the University of Oregon in 2008. Dixon spent four seasons backing up Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich in Pittsburgh. He then spent the next four seasons as the backup Quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.

New York - Josh Freeman

Freeman was the first round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009 out of Kansas State. He spent four seasons as the starter for the Bucs, before signed with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2013 season. Despite starting a few games for the Vikings, the team released Freeman following the season.

Seattle - Jake Locker*

Houston - Vince Young*

Los Angeles - Jimmy Clausen

Clausen was the 2nd round choice of the Carolina Panthers in the 2010 draft out of Notre Dame. Clausen spent four seasons with the Panthers and two with the Chicago Bears, before becoming a Free Agent earlier in 2015.
