Express Gets First Win in Manziel Debut

March 27, 2016

Memphis, TN - Three weeks after being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Johnny Manziel makes his debut in the Alliance League for the Memphis Express and beats Tim Tebow and Steve Spurrier. Think about that sentence for a minute.

Express K Tom Obarski nails three Field Goals in the first half while Blues K Giorgio Tavecchio hits two of his own to make the score a crazy 9-6 at halftime. However, right out of the half, Manziel put together his best drive of the afternoon which resulted in a 9 yard TD pass to WR Jon Baldwin and a 16-6 lead. Tim Tebow would respond with a drive of his own, where he went 4/4 passing with a 34 yard beamer to WR Leonard Hankerson. The biggest crowd of the season for the Express, 37,891, was expecting fireworks from this point but none was to be had. Neither offense could muster up more than a first down or two the rest of the way, Despite the lackluster game, the AAF received their highest television rating of the season. People want to see Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel.
