Stallions Land Huge win over Favored Fleet

Lynch Defeats Kaepernick in San Diego

April 7, 2019

San Diego, CA - It was a wild one on Saturday night, as St. Louis stunned the Fleet on a game-winning 44-yard field goal. San Diego controlled most of the game, before finding themselves in comeback mode late, very nearly pulling it out. But in the end, 51 seconds proved to be too much time left for the Stallions to strike.

Down 11-6 late in the third quarter, St Louis' defense came up three huge plays to start the madness. The Stallions first returned a fumble for a touchdown to give them the lead at 12-11. On the next series, DL Jarvis Jones registered a strip-sack which set up a QB Paxton Lynch 18-yard touchdown pass to extend their lead. Then, the hammer, as DB Marcus Sherels came down with his third pick of the game. He housed it, putting the Stallions up 24-11.

But from there, San Diego went to work, scoring two touchdowns in the final four minutes to re-take the lead 25-24. It certainly wasn’t over, as the Stallions responded with a 42-yard heave down the left sideline to WR Kaelin Clay, which set up the game-winning 44-yard field goal as time expired. It was truly a finish as thrilling as they come.
