2019 Week 2 Recap: Blues Deliver Big Kick to Alphas

Updated: Mar 11, 2021

Week 2 Shows Which Conference is Best

Blues Hit Big Kick for Huge Win

February 24, 2019

Miami, FL - While in St. Louis last week, we saw a late game FG attempt go horribly wrong, in Miami, K Giorgio Tavecchio to play hero, hitting a game-winning 44 yarder as time expired. It was a tough loss for the Alphas, who played well all game, but were never able to put away the plucky Blues squad.

Miami was led by an energized QB EJ Manuel, who was able to keep the Blues in the game even after starting RB Denard Robinson went out of the game with a lower leg injury after only 5 carries. Manuel passed for 203 yards and 2 TD’s to keep pace with Chicago. The Alphas started the game strong, as RB Jacques Patrick put the team up 7-0 with an 11 yard run on the game’s first drive.

Chicago QB Aaron Murray had another strong game and contributed 2 touchdowns to the Chicago effort, but after 54 minutes the Alphas found themselves tied up with the Blues after Manuel hit WR Leonard Hankerson on a beautiful 43 yard TD pass. The Alphas were unable to mount a drive late in the game, and gave Miami the ball with just over 2 minutes to play. Manuel scrambled on a 3rd and 4, picking up 17 yards and giving Tavecchio the chance he needed to win the game with a last-play field goal.

It was a tough pill to swallow for the 43,250 Alphas fans who came out on a cold February afternoon, as the home team could not repeat their success from week 1. For Miami, the game showed that their performance against Las Vegas was no fluke.
